In a major development that celebrates India’s educational and technological journey, has officially acquired the rights to develop a feature film inspired by the life and legacy of E. Balagurusamy — the legendary educator whose books shaped generations of engineering and programming students across India.

Currently in the development stage, the upcoming film aims to capture the inspiring and emotional story of one of India’s most influential academic icons. Far beyond a conventional educational biopic, the project is envisioned as a large-scale cinematic experience centered on aspiration, family dreams, and India’s social transformation through education.

For millions of students during the rise of India’s engineering and IT revolution, Balagurusamy’s books were more than study materials — they became symbols of opportunity. Long before coding became mainstream, his textbooks were seen in engineering classrooms, libraries, hostels, and homes across the country, helping students from ordinary middle-class families build careers in technology and software development.

The makers emphasized that the film will explore how Prof. Balagurusamy strongly believed education and technology could empower common families at a time when unemployment and limited opportunities defined middle-class aspirations.

Many students who studied through his books later contributed to India’s booming IT industry, which today stands as one of the country’s largest employment generators and a pillar of the national economy.

Producer Abhishek Dhandharia said the project is deeply connected to the aspirations of millions of Indian families.

“This is the story of millions of Indian families who believed education could change their children’s future. Prof. Balagurusamy became part of that journey for an entire generation,” he said.

The screenplay is being written by Sameer Mishra, known for creating and writing the acclaimed series Physics Wallah and for writing Criminal Justice: A Family Matter.

Interestingly, both producer Abhishek Dhandharia and writer Sameer Mishra come from premier engineering institutions — Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur and Indian Institute of Technology Bombay respectively — giving the team a personal understanding of India’s engineering culture and middle-class ambitions.

The film is presently in the research and screenplay development phase, while discussions regarding casting, direction, and production planning are ongoing.

Official announcements related to the title, cast, director, and release timeline are expected in the coming months.
